Savitri and Her Sketchbook of Freedom

On 15th August 2025, while India celebrated its freedom, I celebrated another milestone — the launch of my 11th book, Savitri and Her Sketchbook of Freedom. This book is not just a story, it is a responsibility. Born out of my studies in Women and Gender Studies and my search through history, it gives voice to the forgotten women who shaped our independence.
Through the curious eyes of an 11-year-old girl, Savitri, I have brought alive the journeys of Savitribai Phule, Usha Mehta, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Kanaklata Barua, Aruna Asaf Ali, Bhikaji Cama and many more. The book was unveiled at Renaissance Circle by Dr. Mallika Sarabhai, whose words and presence turned the launch into a memory I will treasure forever. Surrounded by my family, friends, students, and supporters, I realised once again that freedom is not just to be remembered in history — it is to be retold, reclaimed, and passed on.
